Las Médulas

These small reddish hills nestled amongst green forests literally sparkle in the sunlight. The unique landscape of Las Médulas is the result of gold mining in mountains during Roman times, when water was used as the main source of power. This open pit mine was the largest in the Roman Empire and is unique to the Iberian Peninsula.
